Overview
Doptelet is a medicine used to prevent excessive bleeding in adults with thrombocytopenia due to long-standing liver disease. Patients with thrombocytopenia have reduced number of platelets (components in the blood that help it to clot), which can cause excessive bleeding. The medicine is for use in patients having an invasive procedure (a medical procedure that involves cutting into or puncturing the skin or inserting instruments into the body). Doptelet contains the active substance avatrombopag.
What is DOPTELET Used For?
Doptelet is used to increase platelet counts in:
✅ Chronic liver disease (CLD) patients before a scheduled procedure
✅ Chronic immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) in adult patients who have had an inadequate response to previous treatments
Mechanism of Action:
Doptelet is a thrombopoietin receptor agonist (TPO-RA).
It stimulates megakaryocyte production in the bone marrow to increase platelet counts.
Dosage & Administration:
Dose varies based on indication and patient weight
Usually given for 5 days before procedures in liver disease
Oral, once daily (with food for better absorption)
Common Side Effects:
Fever
Fatigue
Headache
Nausea
Abdominal pain
Increased liver enzymes
Blood clots (rare but serious)
Important Notes:
Monitoring of platelet levels is essential
Not for use in patients with a history of thrombosis without careful assessment
