LITFULO (RITLECITINIB 50 MG)

Litfulo (Ritlecitinib) is an oral Janus kinase 3 (JAK3) and TEC family kinase inhibitor indicated for the treatment of severe alopecia areata in adults and adolescents aged 12 years and older. Alopecia areata is an autoimmune disorder in which the immune system attacks hair follicles, leading to patchy or extensive hair loss on the scalp and body. Ritlecitinib works by selectively inhibiting signaling pathways involved in the immune response, thereby reducing inflammation around hair follicles and allowing hair regrowth.

The recommended dose is 50 mg orally once daily, with or without food. Clinical studies have shown that treatment with ritlecitinib can result in significant scalp hair regrowth in many patients, although response rates and the time required to achieve regrowth vary among individuals. Improvement may begin within a few months, but continued treatment is often necessary to maintain results.

Common adverse effects include headache, diarrhea, acne, rash, upper respiratory tract infections, nasopharyngitis, dizziness, and increased creatine phosphokinase (CPK) levels. Because ritlecitinib affects the immune system, it may increase the risk of infections, including serious infections. Patients should be evaluated for tuberculosis and viral hepatitis before starting treatment. Laboratory monitoring may include complete blood counts and liver function tests. Vaccinations should be reviewed before therapy, and live vaccines should generally be avoided during treatment.

Ritlecitinib should be used cautiously in patients with a history of recurrent infections, malignancy, or significant liver disease. Women who are pregnant or planning pregnancy should discuss the potential risks and benefits with their healthcare provider. The decision to use Litfulo should be based on an assessment of disease severity, treatment goals, and the patient’s overall medical condition.
