Lyvelsa 20 mg Tablet is a prescription medication containing Finerenone, a non-steroidal mineralocorticoid receptor antagonist. It is primarily used to manage chronic kidney disease (CKD) associated with type 2 diabetes.
Lyvelsa is indicated for adults with:
Chronic kidney disease (CKD) stages 3 and 4 accompanied by albuminuria (presence of albumin in the urine) in patients with type 2 diabetes.
By blocking the mineralocorticoid receptor, Lyvelsa helps reduce the risk of:
Progression to end-stage kidney disease.
Cardiovascular events such as heart attacks and heart failure.
Hospitalization due to heart failure and cardiovascular-related deaths.
Standard Dosage: Typically, 20 mg taken orally once daily.
Administration: Can be taken with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole; do not crush or chew.
Dose Adjustments: Dosage may be adjusted based on kidney function (eGFR levels) and potassium levels.
Common Side Effects:
Hyperkalemia (elevated potassium levels)
Hyponatremia (low sodium levels)
Hyperuricemia (elevated uric acid levels)
Hypotension (low blood pressure)
Symptoms may include nausea, fatigue, muscle cramps, dizziness, and joint pain.
Precautions:
Avoid grapefruit or grapefruit juice during treatment, as it may increase the risk of side effects.
Inform your doctor about all medications you’re taking to avoid potential interactions.
Regular monitoring of kidney function and electrolyte levels is recommended during treatment.
Pregnancy & Breastfeeding: Not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding due to potential harm to the fetus or nursing infant.
Allergies: Do not use if allergic to Finerenone or any component of the tablet.
Medical Conditions: Use with caution in patients with Addison’s disease, severe liver impairment, or high potassium levels.
