Xospata 40 mg Tablet contains Gilteritinib, a targeted therapy used to treat relapsed or refractory acute myeloid leukemia (AML) with a FLT3 mutation. It is available as a 40 mg tablet and is typically prescribed at a dosage of 120 mg once daily (three tablets).

🩺 Medical Uses

Xospata is indicated for adult patients with AML who have a FLT3 mutation and have not responded to or have relapsed after initial treatment. It works by inhibiting the FLT3 enzyme, which is involved in the growth of leukemia cells.

💊 Dosage & Administration

  • Standard Dosage: 120 mg orally once daily (three 40 mg tablets).

  • Administration: Can be taken with or without food. Swallow tablets whole; do not crush or chew.

  • Treatment Duration: Continue until disease progression or unacceptable toxicity occurs.

⚠️ Side Effects

Common Side Effects:

  • Fatigue

  • Joint or muscle pain

  • Fever

  • Mouth sores

  • Swelling of arms or legs

Serious Side Effects:

  • Differentiation Syndrome: A potentially life-threatening condition that can occur as early as 1 day after starting treatment and during the first 3 months. Symptoms include fever, cough, trouble breathing, swelling, rapid weight gain, and decreased urination. Immediate medical attention is required.

  • Heart Rhythm Problems: Such as QT prolongation, which can lead to dizziness, fainting, or irregular heartbeat.

  • Liver Function Changes: Elevated liver enzymes may occur.

  • Pancreatitis: Inflammation of the pancreas, presenting as severe abdominal pain.

🔒 Precautions

  • Pregnancy & Breastfeeding: Xospata can harm an unborn baby. Effective contraception is advised during treatment and for some time after the last dose. Do not breastfeed during treatment and for at least two months after the final dose.

  • Heart Conditions: Inform your doctor if you have a history of heart problems, as Xospata can cause changes in heart rhythm.

  • Other Medications: Avoid using other medicines or supplements without consulting your doctor.
