What is TAGRISSO Used For?
Tagrisso (Osimertinib) is a targeted therapy used to treat:
✅ Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC)
✅ Specifically for patients with EGFR (epidermal growth factor receptor) mutations, including T790M mutation
✅ Approved for both:
First-line treatment of EGFR mutation-positive NSCLC
Second-line treatment in T790M-positive NSCLC after progression on EGFR TKI therapy
Mechanism of Action:
Osimertinib is a third-generation EGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI).
It binds irreversibly to mutant forms of EGFR, especially T790M, L858R, and exon 19 deletions, thereby inhibiting tumor cell growth.
Common Side Effects:
Diarrhea
Rash
Dry skin
Nail toxicity
Decreased appetite
Fatigue
Stomatitis
QT prolongation (heart rhythm issue – needs monitoring)
Important Points:
Only for use in patients confirmed to have EGFR mutations (testing required)
Taken once daily with or without food
Avoid grapefruit or grapefruit juice
Requires monitoring of heart function and liver enzymes
